A message from Superintendent Anne E. Kirkpatrick.
This morning, I, along with some executive and command staff members, met with the CAO, Mr. Gilbert Montaño, and agency leaders from Fire, EMS, and Public Safety to discuss the new Samsara camera system being installed in all city vehicles, including NOPD vehicles.
The Samsara system is a camera system designed to provide both vehicular system diagnostics and operational activities which contribute to poor maintenance practices and otherwise avoidable traffic crashes.
The Mayor and the CAO heard our concerns and at our request, agreed to suspend the installation of the Samsara Systems in NOPD vehicles and uninstall those which have already been made operational, until a more viable plan can be crafted in conjunction with the objectives for which the Samara System was intended.
